I found a Life of St Francis (published by the Bavarian Capuchins) with fifty beautiful illustrations by Chilean painter Pedro Subercaseaux.
The series on St Francis was first published in 1925. The making of this series of watercolors (which included a period of study in Italy) led the successful Subercaseaux to petition the Pope for permission to separate from his beloved wife so that they could both enter religious orders. He became a Benedictine monk and died in 1956.
